Project Abstract
The State of Tennessee proposes to use FFY 2022 Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Reallocation Funds to support the following programs:
The Tennessee Finance and Administration (TN F&A); Office of Criminal Justice Programs (OCJP) is applying for PREA reallocation grant funding to assist in ensuring PREA compliance at all facilities under the management of TN Department of Children’s Services). The TN Department of Children’s Services operates one state hardware secure facility for youth ages 12 to 19 and oversees the PREA standards compliance in 17 to 20 contract facilities. The TDCS fully implemented PREA starting in 2012 and had four state operated facilities at the time. They have received final reports of full compliance for all facility’s federal audits. The Statewide PREA Coordinator for the Department of Children’s Services would be responsible for implementing the additional trainings and the development of marketing materials such as a new educational video for youth and staff; new posters and brochures; and Quick Series pocket standards for juveniles. Due to the size of the state, three training sessions need to occur at least annually in which the staff and contract agencies and facilities can attend. This would be one in the west, middle and east parts of the state to facilitate less travel time and better attendance.
