Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $562,000)

The Bristol County District Attorney's Office (BCDAO), a publicly-funded law enforcement agency, is partnering with the towns of Acushnet, Easton, Fairhaven, Mansfield, North Attelboro, Somerset, and Swansea Massachusetts applying for funds for new body-worn camera (BWC) implementation and the cities of Attleboro and Fall River, Massachusetts and expansion of existing BWC programs and efforts in these towns.  The nine police departments that have partnered on this application have 348 sworn officers and expect to purchase 281 BWCs if funded.

The goals of this partnership are to outfit all officers encountering the public with BWCs to enhance policing transparency, increase public trust, help foster police community relations, and increase offender accountability.  The BCDAO is partnering with the listed police departments to create a consistent method of retrieving video footage in the prosecution of cases.  By streamlining the method used by both the BCDAO and these departments of using cloud-based video storage, it will be effortless to share this important evidence.
