Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $662,768)

Like most states, the availability of detailed information and data pertaining to the different parts of the Wisconsin criminal justice system is both sparse and often times, not current. The lack of real-time and granular criminal justice data makes it difficult for anyone to analyze and generate actionable research and evaluation to inform the public and/or decision-makers. This project proposes for Wisconsin to work towards the implementation of Justice Counts. By expanding an existing criminal justice data consolidation and data sharing project, this proposed project will: (1) make interactive data dashboards of criminal charges and their dispositions, as well as Wisconsin Department of Corrections custody admissions available to the public and (2) work towards incorporating all of the Justice Counts tier-one metrics. Successful implementation will provide timely, consistent data to policymakers and the communities of Wisconsin.
