The purpose of this program is to assist in recruiting and retaining talented local, state, and federal public defenders and local and state prosecutors by maintaining a student loan repayment assistance program for attorneys with the most student loan financial burden who agree to commit to extended employment in public interest law.
Primary activities include soliciting applications from potential beneficiaries, selecting the candidates with most student loan financial burden, obtaining service agreements and employment verifications, working with the California Student Aid Commission to verify loan statuses and deliver loan repayments, and submitting deliverables to OJP.
Expected outcomes include repayment of qualified and verified student loans. The service area is the state of California. The intended beneficiaries are local, state, and federal public defenders and local and state prosecutors with qualifying student loans.
