The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) Forensic Services Bureau (FSB) proposes to use funds from this award to continue to increase the laboratory's capacity to analyze DNA samples, reduce the DNA sample turnaround time, and reduce the number of backlogged DNA cases awaiting analysis. In order to achieve these goals, the FSB will support seven positions with this award, including criminalists to analyze cases, technicians to support the DNA unit, and property evidence specialists to support evidence management and documentation of DNA casework. Funds will also be used for overtime for existing employees and outsourcing of DNA cases.
