FY24 Prosecuting Cold Cases Using DNA Solicitation

BJA recently released the Prosecuting Cold Cases Using DNA solicitation.

This solicitation provides grant funding to support the prosecution of violent cold case crimes where a DNA profile from a known or unknown suspect has already been developed.

We encourage eligible entities to apply for this solicitation. But before you do, we wanted to take a moment to clarify how the Prosecuting Cold Cases Using DNA Program funding may be used.

First, funds may not be utilized for investigations in which a suspect's DNA profile does not exist. Organizations must already have a DNA profile attributed to a known or unknown suspect.

Remember, this solicitation only supports cases that have identified a suspect via DNA evidence and already have a suspect DNA profile developed. What is suspect DNA? BJA defines suspect DNA as a CODIS-eligible profile generated from crime scene evidence.

When developing the budget for your application, please remember this funding supports prosecutorial and investigative activities, as well as crime and forensic analyses that could lead to the successful prosecution of violent cold case crimes.

Permissible costs include: salary and benefits of additional employees, overtime, travel expenses related to investigative purposes, computer equipment, and consultant and contractor services.
