This brief document provides brief descriptions with links about seven programs funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, in an effort to support communities as they overcome challenges faced by the criminal justice system.


This brief, informational document describes several forensic science programs, funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), that work toward strengthening American communities as they work to overcome challenges faced by the criminal justice system. The programs discussed in this pamphlet work to combat violent crime, resolve cases, lower recidivism, increase public safety, and enhance justice; they include: the DNA Capacity Enhancement for Backlog Reduction (CEBR) Program; the National Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) Program; the Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grants (Coverdell) Program; the Postconviction Testing of DNA Evidence (Postconviction) Program; Prosecuting Cold Cases Using DNA (COLD) Program; Strengthening the Medical Examiner-Coroner (ME/C) System Program; and the Missing and Unidentified Human Remains (MUHR) Program. Each program discussed includes a brief description with links for more information, including potential funding opportunities.
