Officer Safety and Wellness Initiatives

Today marks the 10-year anniversary of the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) VALOR Officer and Safety Wellness Program. This program brings vital resources to the field of law enforcement. More than 700 trainings have been held through VALOR, training over 64,000 officers.

On July 14, 2020, the National Law Enforcement Memorial and Museum held a virtual panel discussion on officer safety and wellness, in conjunction with the release of mid-year 2020 data on officer fatalities.

BJA has partnered with the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) to launch the National Consortium on Preventing Law Enforcement Suicide, a groundbreaking new initiative to raise awareness of the systemic barriers to mental health and prevent deaths by suicide among law enforcement officers.
